CeMAP® past papers are the most searched-for practice material that does not exist in public. This guide explains what Walbrook (LIBF) actually provides for the five CeMAP units (FRE1, FRE2, MRT1, MRT2 and ASEW/ASSC), what the "past papers" and PDFs found online really are, and what to use instead. It applies to the new CeMAP structure that started on 30 September 2025, UK-wide. For how each unit exam is structured and marked, see the CeMAP pass mark guide. If you want to start practising straight away, every unit has a free timed mock paper.
CeMAP®, FSRE® and CeRER® are registered trade marks of LIBF (The London Institute of Banking & Finance), part of Walbrook Institute London. cemapexam.co.uk is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to LIBF or Walbrook, and it offers no pass guarantee.
Does Walbrook publish CeMAP past papers?
Walbrook does not publish CeMAP past papers for any unit, old or new. It provides one specimen exam per unit with each registration, and sells extra practice exams at £25 per unit or £40 per module, as of October 2026.
Nothing on the Walbrook CeMAP page, the CeMAP qualification specification or the exam information pages offers past papers. That is normal for professional exams sat on demand, which typically draw on a confidential question bank; Walbrook does not describe how it builds its own papers.
What Walbrook does offer, as of October 2026:
| Material | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Specimen exam | Included, one per unit | Comes with registration |
| Extra practice or specimen exams | £25 per unit or £40 per module | On top of the free one |
| CeMAP Revision Tool (CRT) | £90 FSRE; £120 MORT and ASEW; £180 all modules | Includes all practice exams |
| Study texts | Included for CeMAP 1 and 2 | Online; a printed copy can be bought |
So when a search result offers "CeMAP 1 past papers" or "LIBF CeMAP past papers", it is not offering anything Walbrook has released.
Key fact: Nobody legitimate sells Walbrook's live exam questions. Our own papers are original exam-style papers written for the new units, and we never use recalled or leaked questions.
What is the CeMAP specimen paper?
The CeMAP specimen paper is a sample exam that Walbrook writes for each unit, released for the new units on 24 October 2025: one comes free with each unit registration, inside the learner platform, and it follows that unit's exam format.
Walbrook's page on the improvements to CeMAP lists "a free specimen exam paper for each unit" among the new study materials. Specimen papers sit behind the learner login, so we have not seen them and cannot describe their content.
The specimen should match the unit formats, which are:
| Unit | Questions | Time | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|---|
| FRE1 | 40 (25 standalone + 3 case studies × 5) | 1 hour | 28 |
| FRE2 | 40 (25 standalone + 3 case studies × 5) | 1 hour | 28 |
| MRT1 | 50 standalone | 1 hour | 35 |
| MRT2 | 40 standalone | 1 hour | 28 |
| ASEW/ASSC | 6 case studies × 10 | 2 hours | 42 |
How to use it. Because you have only one free specimen per unit, do not waste it on day one. Take it once your topic work is done, timed, as a dress rehearsal. It is written by the people who set the exam, so it is the best evidence you will get of their style.
Exam tip: Keep the specimen paper for your final week on each unit, after at least two full mocks. Used too early, it only tells you that you have not revised yet.
What are the "past papers" sold online?
The "past papers" sold online are usually one of three things: a seller's own practice questions under a misleading name, uploads of old-structure material, or questions recalled from memory after an exam. None of them is a paper Walbrook has published.
| What you find | What it usually is | Problem |
|---|---|---|
| "CeMAP past papers with answers PDF" | A seller's own questions | Fine if current and accurate; the name is misleading |
| Document-sharing uploads of "CeMAP Unit 1" papers | Old seven-unit material, often copied from study texts | Out of date, and often copyright material shared without permission |
| "Recalled" exam questions | Questions remembered after a sitting | Unverified, frequently wrong, and never released by Walbrook |
| Old "Module 1 past papers" | UKFR-era practice | UKFR was withdrawn on 16 July 2026 |
A seller's own questions can be good practice. The test is whether they follow the new units and current rules, not what they are called.
Key fact: If material is sold as an actual CeMAP exam, it is either mislabelled or should not be circulating. Neither is a reason to trust it.
How can you tell if practice material is current?
Practice material is current if it uses the five new units (FRE1, FRE2, MRT1, MRT2, ASEW/ASSC), shows 40-question FRE papers with case studies, prices the full CeMAP at £735, and uses current rules such as the £120,000 FSCS deposit limit.
Signs that material was written for the old structure, which closed in 2026:
| Warning sign | Current position |
|---|---|
| "UKFR", "Unit 1" or "Unit 2" as current | CeMAP 1 is FSRE: FRE1 and FRE2 |
| "Units 3 to 6", MLPP, MAPP, MRPP, MAPC | CeMAP 2 is MRT1 and MRT2 |
| "ASSM" | CeMAP 3 is ASEW/ASSC |
| 50-question FRE papers, or a 2-hour CeMAP 2 exam | FRE units are 40 questions; MORT units are 1 hour each |
| Booking through Pearson VUE | Exams are on demand on Brightspace |
| An £85,000 FSCS deposit limit | £120,000 for failures from 1 December 2025 |
| A 3% SDLT surcharge on additional homes | 5% since 31 October 2024 |
Check any rule against its primary source. The FSCS limit is on fscs.org.uk, and MCOB rules are in the FCA Handbook. Our guide to what changed in CeMAP has the full old-to-new mapping.
Exam tip: Look at the first few questions of any paper. If they mention UKFR or a 3% stamp duty surcharge, put it aside.
Are CeMAP PDFs and books worth using?
CeMAP PDFs and books are worth using if they are Walbrook's current study texts or a recent book written for the new units; pirated study-text PDFs and old-structure books are not, because they breach copyright and teach a structure that closed in 2026.
Your registration includes Walbrook's online study texts for CeMAP 1 and CeMAP 2, plus revision content for CeMAP 3. The FSRE page adds that downloadable PDFs are available for accessibility. A printed copy of the study texts can be bought separately.
Searches such as "CeMAP book PDF" or "CeMAP course free PDF" mostly lead to:
- Copies of Walbrook's study texts shared without permission. They are copyright material, and using or passing them on is not something we recommend. They are also often for the old structure.
- Old revision notes written for the seven-unit CeMAP.
- Marketing PDFs from course sellers, which describe a course rather than teach the syllabus.
There is no free CeMAP certificate. The exams are sat through Walbrook, and as of October 2026 the full qualification costs £735 including study materials. Our CeMAP self-study guide covers what you can do for free, and our CeMAP revision guide covers choosing study material.
Key fact: Your registration already includes the study text. Paying for, or downloading, a copy elsewhere usually buys an older edition.
What can you print to practise on paper?
You can print our free practice worksheets for FRE1, FRE2, MRT1 and MRT2: each holds up to 50 questions from that unit's free bank, with an answer key on the last page, and your browser's print option saves it as a PDF.
| Unit | Printable worksheet |
|---|---|
| FRE1 | FRE1 worksheet with answer key |
| FRE2 | FRE2 worksheet with answer key |
| MRT1 | MRT1 worksheet with answer key |
| MRT2 | MRT2 worksheet with answer key |
| ASEW | Not yet: the worksheet does not print case studies |
Each worksheet also shows the real unit format at the top, so you can time yourself. Paper practice suits revision away from a screen, or working through questions with a study partner. It is not the same as a timed mock on screen, which is how the real exam is sat, so use both.
How to get the most from a printed sheet:
- Set a timer for the unit's average pace: 90 seconds a question for FRE1, FRE2 and MRT2, 72 seconds for MRT1.
- Answer every question before you look at the key.
- Mark guesses with a dot and count them as wrong when you score.
- For each miss, write the rule or fact on the back of the sheet.
Exam tip: Print a fresh worksheet a week after the first and compare scores. The questions you missed twice are your real weak spots.
How should you use mock papers instead?
Mock papers should be used as a measure, not as learning material: sit each one timed in the unit's real format, review every wrong answer, drill the weak topics, then take a fresh paper until you score 85% or more three times in a row.
Our mock papers are original exam-style papers, built for each unit's format, with an explanation for every option. Mock 1 of every unit is free with no account. The method:
- Sit it as the exam. Full time limit, no notes, one sitting: for example the free FRE1 mock 1, or the six-case ASEW mock 1.
- Review every miss, reading why each wrong option is wrong.
- Drill the topic behind each cluster of misses.
- Take a fresh paper. Re-sitting the same paper mostly measures memory.
Our readiness rule, the same one the app uses, is three mocks in a row at 85% or more, with every topic at 80% or more. That margin over the 70% pass mark covers unfamiliar questions on the day. It is a guide, not a pass guarantee. The full method, unit by unit, is on our CeMAP practice papers guide.
Key fact: Each of our mock numbers is a fixed paper, the same for everyone, so a score on mock 3 can be compared across attempts.
Your practice plan without past papers
A practice plan without past papers has five stages per unit: a free diagnostic, topic study with drills, printable worksheets for paper practice, the free mock 1 under real timing, then the Walbrook specimen paper and fresh mocks in your final week.
| Stage | What to use | When |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Diagnose | Free 20-question diagnostic for the unit | Day 1 |
| 2. Learn | Walbrook study text, our unit guide, topic drills | Weeks 1 to 2 |
| 3. Paper practice | Printable worksheet (FRE1, FRE2, MRT1, MRT2) | Weeks 2 to 3 |
| 4. First full mock | Free mock 1, timed | Week 3 |
| 5. Final checks | Fresh mocks, then the Walbrook specimen paper | Week 4 |
If you have only two weeks
Compress the plan rather than skipping stages. Spend the first three days on the diagnostic and your two weakest topics, days four to ten on the remaining topics with a worksheet every other day, and the last four days on two fresh timed mocks and the specimen paper. If you are not near 85% by then, there is no booking to lose: exams are on demand, so move the date and keep practising.
The free diagnostic, quick practice, mock 1 and worksheets need no account. Mocks 2 to 10, topic drills by learning outcome and every study note come with Pro: £6.99 a week, £11.99 a month or £22.99 for three months, with one plan for all five units. For a unit-by-unit view of what the exam is like, start with the CeMAP practice papers guide.
Frequently asked questions
+Are there free CeMAP past papers?
No. Walbrook does not publish CeMAP past papers, free or paid. Free practice that does exist includes the specimen exam included with each unit registration, and independent practice such as our free mock 1 for every unit and printable worksheets for FRE1, FRE2, MRT1 and MRT2.
+Is the CeMAP specimen paper like the real exam?
It is written by Walbrook, the awarding body, for the new units, so it is the best guide to the style of the real questions. It sits behind the learner login and we have not reviewed it, so we cannot say how closely it matches a live paper. Sit it under timed conditions.
+Can I download a CeMAP study text as a PDF?
Registered learners get online study texts, and Walbrook says FSRE materials include downloadable PDFs for accessibility. Copies of the study texts shared on document-sharing sites are copyright material uploaded without permission, and they are often for the old structure, so avoid them.
+Do exam questions get reused?
Walbrook does not say how it builds or rotates its exam papers. Because it never releases them, you cannot rely on seeing a question you have met before. Prepare to answer any question on the syllabus, not to recognise particular ones.
+Are old CeMAP past papers still useful?
Only a little. Anything sold as an old paper follows the seven-unit structure that closed in 2026, with different formats, no FRE case studies and possibly out-of-date rules and tax figures. Some mortgage law questions still apply, but current-format practice is a far better use of your time.
+Can I print CeMAP practice questions?
Yes. Our printable worksheets for FRE1, FRE2, MRT1 and MRT2 hold up to 50 questions each, with an answer key on the last page, and you can save them as a PDF from your browser. There is no ASEW worksheet yet, because it does not print case studies.
