A CeMAP® course is tuition that prepares you for the five CeMAP unit exams. It is sold by independent training providers, not by Walbrook (LIBF), which awards the qualification. This page compares the ways to study for CeMAP by cost, support and pace, and sets out named providers' published prices so you can choose. It covers UK courses; the exams are the same across the UK. For the qualification itself, see the CeMAP qualification guide; for studying without a course, see CeMAP self-study.
CeMAP®, FSRE® and CeRER® are registered trade marks of LIBF (The London Institute of Banking & Finance), part of Walbrook Institute London. cemapexam.co.uk is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to LIBF or Walbrook, and it offers no pass guarantee.
What is a CeMAP course?
A CeMAP course is optional tuition from a training provider. It never replaces the Walbrook registration, which costs £735 as of October 2026 and is the only route to the five exams and the certificate. Walbrook says a course "is not a requirement".
Walbrook's CeMAP page is explicit: "you will still need to register and complete CeMAP through us, as the qualification awarding body". So every CeMAP budget has two parts.
| Part | Who you pay | What it buys | Required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registration | Walbrook | Study texts, specimen exams, first attempt at all 5 exams, certificate | Yes |
| Course | A training provider | Teaching, the provider's own notes, practice questions, tutor support | No |
The four ways to study, side by side:
| Study route | Typical published price, all three modules (30 Oct 2026) | Support | Pace |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-study with Walbrook materials | £0 on top of registration | None beyond Walbrook's forum and optional paid tutor support | Your own |
| Self-paced online course | about £200 to £850 | Recorded videos, notes, email or phone tutor | Your own, within the access period |
| Live webinar or virtual classroom | about £800 to £1,150 | Live tutor, fixed dates | Fixed, usually about 4 to 5 days per module group |
| Classroom (in person) | about £1,050 to £1,250 | Live tutor in a room, fixed dates | Fixed, usually about 4 to 5 days per module group |
Prices are before VAT where a provider adds it. The cost of registration, resits and Walbrook's own extras is in the CeMAP cost guide.
Key fact: A "CeMAP course and exam" bundle is rare. Every provider in the table below states that the Walbrook fee is paid separately.
What types of CeMAP course are there?
There are four types of CeMAP course: self-paced online or distance learning, live webinar, classroom and fast track. Fast track is a format rather than a separate type: classroom or webinar teaching compressed into about ten days for all three modules.
Provider prices compared (checked 30 October 2026)
The table lists providers that publish CeMAP course prices on their own websites. Prices and features are as stated on each provider's own pages on 30 October 2026; we have not bought any of these courses. Providers are in alphabetical order, which is not a ranking, and we link to none of them. "Walbrook status" is taken from Walbrook's Accredited Learning Support Provider page on the same date.

Walbrook's list also names Quilter Academy as a Trusted Partner; it is not in the table. Walbrook's page says it is "not currently accepting new ALSP applications for CeMAP", so the accredited list for CeMAP is closed to newcomers for now.
What the table shows
On published prices alone, measured objectively:
- the lowest full-qualification price among the providers checked is £198 (uAcademy, self-paced online, not on Walbrook's list);
- the lowest full-qualification price from a provider on Walbrook's ALSP list is £300 (Clarity, distance learning);
- the only free option is New Leaf's training recordings;
- only Futuretrend publishes inc-VAT prices (for its virtual classroom), and only Simply Academy adds "+VAT" to every course price; the others do not say.
Price is one criterion; format, tutor access and access length matter as much. Prices change, so check each provider's page on the day you book.
Exam tip: Compare access length with your Walbrook deadline. A 12-month course access period is shorter than the 18-month full registration.
Do you need a course from an accredited provider?
You do not need a course at all, and Walbrook does not require an accredited one. Its Accredited Learning Support Provider (ALSP) scheme formally recognises providers it has assessed, and Walbrook says only ALSPs "are authorised to state they are accredited by us".
Walbrook describes an ALSP as "a training organisation that has joined our ALSP scheme and has been formally recognised by us as delivering appropriate additional learning and training support". To join, a provider's course is assessed against standards that include:
- accuracy of course information and course content;
- comparability to Walbrook's programme of study;
- quality of delivery, online and in a classroom;
- trainer and author credentials;
- course management policies and annual reporting.
Walbrook adds that ALSP courses "might not be suitable for all students and we offer no guarantee of success if you use them". Its page also lists two Trusted Partners for CeMAP, Quilter Academy and Simply Academy, separately from the ALSPs.
If you consider a provider not on the list
Walbrook's CeMAP page suggests checking whether the provider:
- can be contacted by phone or email, not only by call-back;
- gives an address you can check on Companies House;
- states its course fees clearly, and says you must also pay Walbrook;
- shows accurate, current syllabus information and clear terms.
It warns that materials not offered by an ALSP "might be incomplete, inaccurate or out of date". A provider being off the list does not make it poor, but it does mean Walbrook has not reviewed it.
Key fact: "Accredited by LIBF" is a claim only Walbrook's ALSPs may make. "FCA approved" is never true of a course: the FCA lists qualifications, not training providers.
Are fast-track and intensive CeMAP courses worth it?
Fast-track CeMAP courses are worth it if you learn best from a tutor and can clear about ten weekdays: one 4 to 5-day block for CeMAP 1, another for CeMAP 2 and 3. The 250 hours of total qualification time still apply.
A fast-track course gives you a live tutor, a fixed timetable and a reason to study now. What it does not do:
- sit the exams for you. CeMAP exams are on demand on Brightspace, and you still have to pass each one at 70%;
- replace review. Ten days of teaching is roughly 60 to 70 hours, well short of 250, so most candidates need mocks and self-study afterwards (our arithmetic from the providers' published daily hours);
- change the exam. A fast-track candidate sits the same papers as a self-study candidate.
"Intensive" and "crash" courses usually mean the same thing. A "refresher course" is shorter: it is aimed at people who studied before, failed a unit, or are returning after the 2025 changes. Our how long does CeMAP take guide shows realistic timelines with and without a course.
Exam tip: Sit the exam for each module within two weeks of finishing its fast-track block, while the teaching is fresh, and only once your timed mock scores are well above 70%.
How do apprenticeships cover CeMAP?
Apprenticeships cover CeMAP through the Level 3 Mortgage adviser apprenticeship standard (ST0182) in England, in which Walbrook says CeMAP is "a mandated qualification". The employer and training provider arrange the qualification as part of the programme, alongside paid work.
An apprenticeship is a job with training, not a course you buy. The standard is published by Skills England as the Mortgage adviser apprenticeship standard. In practice:
- You apply for an apprentice mortgage adviser vacancy with an employer.
- The employer chooses the training provider.
- You study and sit CeMAP as part of the programme, then the firm assesses your competence.
Apprenticeship standards are an England scheme; Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run their own apprenticeship systems. Our become a mortgage adviser guide covers apprenticeships alongside other entry routes.
Key fact: Passing CeMAP, through any route, does not on its own allow unsupervised advice. Under the FCA's TC rules your firm must assess you as competent.
What should a good CeMAP course include in 2026?
A good CeMAP course in 2026 teaches the five current units by name (FRE1, FRE2, MRT1, MRT2 and ASEW/ASSC), practises each in its real format, including case studies, states the Walbrook fee separately, and gives access for as long as your registration.
Use this checklist when comparing providers:
| Check | What good looks like | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Unit names | FRE1, FRE2, MRT1, MRT2, ASEW/ASSC | The structure changed on 30 September 2025 |
| Exam formats | FRE 40 (25 + 3 case studies × 5); MRT1 50; MRT2 40; ASEW 6 × 10 | Practice in the wrong format builds the wrong timing |
| Pass marks | 28/40, 35/50, 28/40, 42/60 | All 70% |
| Exam delivery | Brightspace, remote invigilation, no booking | The old test-centre booking ended in January 2026 |
| Case-study practice | For FRE1, FRE2 and CeMAP 3 | 15 of 40 FRE marks and all 60 CeMAP 3 marks are case-study questions |
| Tax figures | Labelled with a tax year (2026/27) | Walbrook's tax table is the reference |
| Fees | Course price and VAT stated; Walbrook fee stated separately | Walbrook's own checklist asks for this |
| Access | At least as long as your registration | 18 months full; 12 per module |
| Status | On Walbrook's ALSP list, if the provider says "accredited" | Only ALSPs may claim accreditation |
Unit formats are from the CeMAP qualification specification.
Exam tip: Ask a provider for a sample FRE1 case study before you buy. If its practice has no case studies, it is not practising the current FRE1 format.
How can you spot an out-of-date CeMAP course?
You can spot an out-of-date CeMAP course by its unit names and formats: anything describing UKFR, Units 1 to 7, ASSM, 50 questions for FRE1, FRE2 or MRT2, or a two-hour exam per module is teaching the structure that closed in January 2026.
Walbrook's notice on the improvements to CeMAP from 30 September 2025 gives the dates: old exams ended on 12 January 2026 and UKFR on 16 July 2026. Signs of old material:
| Old (pre-2025) | Current (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| CeMAP 1 = UKFR, units ITFS and UKFS | CeMAP 1 = FSRE, units FRE1 and FRE2 |
| CeMAP 2 = Units 3 to 6 (MLPP, MAPP, MRPP, MAPC) | CeMAP 2 = MRT1 and MRT2 |
| CeMAP 3 = ASSM | CeMAP 3 = ASEW/ASSC |
| "Seven units" | Five units |
| Two-hour exam per module | One hour per unit; two hours for CeMAP 3 |
| Exams booked through Pearson VUE | Brightspace, on demand, no booking |
| CeMAP fee £690, resit £110 | £735, resit £120 (as of October 2026) |
| FSCS deposit limit £85,000 | £120,000 from 1 December 2025 |
A sales page can mix current and old descriptions, so check the materials you will actually receive. Our CeMAP changes guide maps every old unit to its new equivalent.
Key fact: If you passed old units before 2026, Walbrook transferred your passes to the new units on 13 January 2026. A course for the old units cannot help you finish the new ones.
Where does practice software fit?
Practice software fits alongside a course or self-study, not instead of the syllabus: it is where you rehearse each unit's exam format under time. Walbrook's own CeMAP Revision Tool costs £90 to £180 as of October 2026; independent tools cost less.
| Practice option | Price (30 Oct 2026) | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Walbrook specimen exam | 1 per unit included; extra £25 a unit or £40 a module | Walbrook's own papers |
| Walbrook CeMAP Revision Tool | £90 FSRE; £120 MORT and ASEW; £180 all | Exam-style questions, timed mode, all practice exams |
| Practice included in a course | Part of the course price | Varies by provider |
| cemapexam.co.uk | Diagnostic, quick practice and mock 1 free for every unit; Pro £6.99 a week, £11.99 a month or £22.99 for 3 months | Real unit formats, original questions |
Our mocks copy each unit's official format: FRE1 and FRE2 are 40 questions in an hour, with 3 case studies of 5; MRT1 is 50 questions; MRT2 is 40; and ASEW is 6 case studies of 10 in two hours. They are original exam-style papers, not past papers. The CeMAP practice papers guide explains how they are built.
Exam tip: Whatever course you choose, sit at least three full timed mocks per unit before the real exam. Teaching tells you what the rules are; mocks show whether you can apply them in 60 minutes.
Your choice, step by step
Your choice of CeMAP course starts with a free diagnostic: 20 FRE1 questions in 30 minutes show whether you need teaching or only practice. Then pick a format, compare named providers on price, VAT, access and Walbrook status, and register with Walbrook.
- Take the free FRE1 diagnostic. If you score well above 50% before studying, self-study plus practice may be enough (our rule of thumb).
- Decide on format. Self-paced if you need flexibility; live webinar or classroom if you need a tutor and deadlines.
- Shortlist two or three providers from the table, and check each one's own page on the day.
- Run the 2026 checklist above: current unit names, case-study practice, Walbrook fee stated separately.
- Check the total. Course price, VAT if added, plus £735 to Walbrook and a £120 resit reserve.
- Register with Walbrook when you are ready to start studying.
- Practise in the real format. Sit the free FRE1 mock 1 when you have covered the syllabus, and drill weak areas such as the FCA, PRA and Handbook topic.
Mock 1, the quick practice and the diagnostic are free for every unit. Mocks 2 to 10, topic drills and case-study practice for all five units are in Pro, cancel anytime. Our readiness rule is three mocks in a row at 85% or more, with every topic at 80% or more, before you sit the real unit.
Key fact: The cheapest course is not always the cheapest route. Each resit costs £120, so the route that gets you through each unit first time costs least.
Frequently asked questions
+What is the best CeMAP course?
There is no official ranking and no published pass-rate data that would let anyone name one. Compare on objective points instead: whether the provider is on Walbrook's accredited list, whether the course teaches the current units, the format you learn best in, the total price including VAT, and how long access lasts.
+Is an online CeMAP course as good as classroom?
No official data compares the two. The exams are the same online multiple-choice papers whichever way you study. Walbrook says classroom and webinar courses let you learn with a tutor and other students away from distractions; self-paced online courses cost less and fit around work.
+How much is a CeMAP course?
On providers' own pages on 30 October 2026, courses for all three modules cost from £198 for a self-paced online course to about £1,250 for classroom training, before VAT where it applies. The Walbrook registration of £735 is always extra.
+Does a CeMAP course include the exam fee?
Usually not. Every provider we checked states that the Walbrook registration and exam fees are paid separately, directly to Walbrook. The registration fee includes the first attempt at each exam; resits cost £120 per unit as of October 2026.
+Can I do CeMAP in 10 days?
Fast-track courses teach the syllabus in about ten days, typically one five-day block for CeMAP 1 and another for CeMAP 2 and 3. The exams are on demand, so you can sit them soon after. Walbrook still sets 250 hours of total qualification time, so most people need self-study as well.
+Do I need a course to pass CeMAP?
No. Walbrook says using a learning support provider is entirely up to you and not a requirement of your studies. The registration includes the study texts and a specimen exam per unit, and many candidates pass with self-study and practice alone.
